Plus Size Tutu Skirts

Tanesha Awasthi is the gorgeous plus size blogger from Girl with Curves who always has great hair and great clothes. She’s from the smaller end of the plus size spectrum and I’m sure many people look at her and don’t consider her plus size — she doesn’t routinely share her size because she feels that “size isn’t important when we are all built differently, different heights, etc”. She has been blogging since early 2011 and in 2013 she introduced her own clothing line, Tanesha Awasthi, recently changed to the same title of her blog “Shop Girl with Curves”. Her next collection doesn’t come out until Fall 2014 but her signature piece is a short tutu skirt — it is so sweet. At the moment in comes in black and crème blush for $145. It is available in sizes 12 to 24 (kind of unfortunate because I’m sure there are some size 26/28 women who’d love this too but from what I get from the comments she’s willing to work with other sizes in want). Both colors are beautiful but I think the black is my favorite.

I bring her up today because I got an email announcing international shipping rates. At $14.95, it is pretty reasonable.

You might think $145 is expensive for a tutu and definitely is at the higher end but I did a quick search around and most are in the $100 range with some even going as high as $200. There are also varying lengths. The cheaper prices tend to go with the more comical looking tutus that are really not meant to be worn as skirts rather than the romantic looking ones. If you are looking for longer or shorter options definitely check out Etsy, a simple search provides a bevy or results in all kinds of colors and lengths.

Are you brave enough to wear a tutu skirt?

The Faux Leather Skirt

Want a chic leather skirt without the authentic leather price (or guilt)? Chic Chic Online has this adorable Vinyl Skater Skirt in black ($68).

I love that they styled the model with bare legs but I what I really want is these berry opaque tights ($12) to go with it.

I love it when the rich berries and emeralds come out to play for fall. What do you think of the skirt, with or without tights?

Jumpsuit Crazy

I think jumpsuits look amazing when they are fitted properly — unfortunately most people purchase a jumpsuit without getting it fitted and with so many different body types, heights etc there are a whole bunch of fit issues going on. Then, throw in the whole having to take off your whole outfit to pee — no thanks.

But you, my loyal peeps, you love your jumpsuits; otherwise you would not be searching for them. My number one search item for this year has been jumpsuits. Guest what, you are not alone, Ashley Stewart loves jumpsuits too. There is at least seven of them in their maxi dress closet (some on sale and some are buy one get one 50% off). Here are my favorites (all under $50):

If you want the designer brand then check out Monif C’s summer special which comes in three colors: black, burgundy, and ivory. They are fresh out of the new arrivals so are not on sale and will ring in at $178. I love the addition of the really long sash to wrap things up or leave hanging. Or just remove and add your own belt.

Have you gotten into the jumpsuit trend? Or have you “been there, done that”?

The Long Skirt

Switch up the bottom separates in your closet with the addition of the long skirt, or maxi skirt if you prefer. The maxi skirt, like the maxi dress goes past the lower calf to touch the tops of the feet to give the full flow appeal that only a really long skirt can give. eShakti has three beautiful print long skirts available in sizes XS to 6X for $99.95 (until May 12 they are offering — Buy 2 get 2nd 40% or buy 3 and get on free — on everything, not just skirts). Unlike other retailers if you enter your height eShakti will customize it.

All three of the skirts have great retro prints and are basically made the same with six panels. Another great feature is they all have pockets (love skirts with pockets)!

Grey Jeans

Grey seems to be a hot color from everywhere from home decor (towels, paint, pillows…) to clothing (it has transcended the new black slot to become a featured color). I have embraced grey as well. We put grey tiles in the front entrance and bathroom and I painted the kitchen grey. I would like to get some medium grey towels for the bathroom at some point but have not found ones I love yet. I do however love these grey plus size jeans from Carmakoma.

I love the intentionally faded spots on thighs and rump and the unique buttoned waistline. Grey is a great base color that goes with anything like its black sister but I love it best with red.

Boots and Jeans

It has been a busy season for Addition-Elle this season. There is the usual fall line release of course but they also have some big additions namely Wide Calf Boots and Perfect Fit Denim.

The Boots

First the footwear, this is really a huge addition because they have not carried footwear before this. Addition-Elle is not just offering wide calf boots but a whole line from flats to tall boots (sister store Penningtons will be carrying their own footwear line too). Prices range in price from $25 for flats to $170 for boots. Here’s a sneak peak:

When you visit the boot section at Addition-Elle be sure to scroll down to the overview section to find out the calf width for each size — excellent feature to make shopping online easier but make sure you measure both calves and go with the largest size.

The Denim

If you have been looking for a better fit in your denim and have been longing for the better fit options available in the states, whine no further. Addition-Elle has unveiled their Perfect Fit Denim blues you see here on the hips of Ashley Graham and in the following video:

Perfect Fit Denim on Ashley Graham for Addition-Elle

They are giving you three options to choose from: Curvy, Shapely, and Versatile which should be the majority of denim wearers happy.

You will find some deeply dyed twill colors for fall and a few designer brands like DKNY, Levi’s (yes they make plus size now), Suko, Angels, Silver, Apple Bottoms and more.

I am especially looking forward to the coloured twill pants and printed denim. Denim will range in price from $60 to $130 depending on brand.

OOTD with Lana

It has been a wet December here and we have not had to dress for winter yet with warmer than usual weather. I am sure we will be paying for it next month! Lana and I met for our scheduled monthly lunch date — this time the Waring House in Picton. Here is a run down on what she wore:

Outfit breakdown:
Jacket – Winners
Skirt – Touch of Class
Boots – Naturalizer
Gloves – BonTon
Handbag – Coach Outlet
Sunglasses – Ray Bans
Jewelry – Touch of Class

The restaurant was really pretty. There was formal or pub dining to choose from. The menu was the same so we chose the fine dining because it was brighter. Here is a view after the lunch crowd left:

And I had a great view from my seat of the garden. The day started off brighter.:

We worked off our calories by doing a little shopping in Bloomfield. This is my favorite shop (lots of sparkly stuff):

OOTD with Lana

My friend Lana is considering doing an outfit of the day (OOTD) post or vlog for you once a month (or perhaps more often if we can talk her into it). Lana is on the lower end of the plus size scale coming in at a 14/16 depending on the clothing brand. She always looks polished like today when we went for lunch (and a little shopping).

Lane Bryant Ships to Canada!!

I have waited two years for it to happen. And I have bitched on and off for most of that time. But it has finally happened:

Lane Bryant is Shipping to Canada Again!!!

I know I can’t believe it either. I thought this day would never come. But the good news does not end there. Because Lane Bryant now has a shared site with its sister stores: Catherines, Fashion Bug, Cacique, Loop 18 and Sonsi (which includes many other brands), you can also order from all of those stores in the same session.

The site is set up to handle international shipping and exchange rates to make shopping easier. I am hoping it is updated with exchange rates fairly often. They also collect Canadian taxes and duty at time of purchase. I played around with the cart and you DO NOT have to enter all your personal information before you can shipping, duty, and taxes. FYI for about $200 shipping was $15.

Make sure you have some extra time on your hands because once you visit you are going to be there for a long time. Here are a few of my favorites:

Looking for Jeans

If you are looking to try a new pair of plus size jeans then Ulla Popken has released a new denim jean with the traditional zip and the pull on with elastic band. They are 99% cotton and 1% spandex. You are going to love the size range — get ready for it — they are offering them in sizes 12 to 38 (and I am talking about a plus size 38 not a standard size 38). That is one of the best size ranges for denim out there. The button/zip jeans are currently on for $39 (reg $59). The pull on come in a jegging and a relaxed fit for $39. Here is a video from Ulla Popken introducing the jeans with in house staff models in sizes 12 to 20:

Channeling Harlow and Dietrich

I have been drooling over Igigi’s old Hollywood collection all week. There are a number of favorite pieces amongst the dresses, tops, pants etc but these two pieces are my absolute favorite.

plus size Harlow Skirt and Dietrich Top from Igigi

The Dietrich Top – You can’t see from the photo but the top has origami pleating which is gorgeous. Sizes are selling out quickly! I love that the top is only $60, a bargain from Igigi.

The Harlow Skirt – This pencil skirt is a herringbone tweed that is perfect for fall. It looks fabulous with the Dietrich top but would look equally bliss with a pussy bow blouse. For $65 it is a steal for this kind of quality. And yes, sizes are starting to disappear!

I love this whole look — the top, the skirt, the boots, the gloves, the purse. Gorgeous, just like Harlow and Dietrich.
