Military Jacket for Spring

One of my favorite jackets in high school was a military jacket I picked up at the second hand store. I literally wore the shit out of it. Ah, fond memories. Why can’t all pieces of clothing be so blessed… Plus Size Military Jacket in Brushed Cotton

As you may have guessed, military is back; and with a fierce vengeance, so if you have some packed away dig it out, if you saw something you here hedging on at the second hand store run back and get it. You can now wear it and actually be hip or as my nephew says “pro”.

In the new realm I found this cute military jacket at eShakti. I love the lines on this baby. This deep olive khaki is reasonably priced at $59.95. It is offered in regular and plus sizes up to 3x. Bigger than a 3x? eShakti offers custom sizing for an additional fee.

A Peace of Threadless

Out of the new shirts Threadless released this week the “Peace” tee by Andy Gonsalves was my favorite. It’s blue (yes, blue is my favorite color), it is so simple, and it’s cute — tell me you won’t smile the next time you see a dove.

This image actually brought up a childhood memory of sitting on an iron fence at my aunt’s neighbor’s with her grandson Wayne. Every time a vehicle drove by, and it was often, we would scream at the top of our lungs, “Peace, brother!”

This Threadless tee is available in sizes up to 3x (no the model in the insert isn’t plus size, the image is just to show design placement) for $18.

Silk Kaftans

You know how some people dislike the word “fat” as a descriptive and others are proud of it? Well, I dislike the word “kaftan”. Anna Scholz on the other hand has been using it for a few years and yes I’ve been incredibly resistant to it. But today I was thinking it may be a culture thing. Or perhaps she is trying to reclaim the word and make it something positive. Regardless these are NOT the kaftans your great auntie used to wear.

I love the wistful patterns on these silk tunics (see, I still have a hard time with the word) from Anna Scholz new looks for spring. LOVE THEM! The top on the left is the Silk Habotai Gathered Neck Kaftan from Anna’s White Label and is available in sizes 18 to 24 for £265. The top on the right is the Silk Georgette Square Tie Kaftan and is also from Anna’s White Label. It is available in sizes 16 to 26 for £190.

As you can see from the images the tops can be easily dressed up or dressed down depending on what you pair them with.

You can order direct from Anna Scholz in the UK because they ship worldwide. Canadian plus size boutique Lola & Gigi carries some of Anna Scholz’s latest designs.

Cotton Ginny Comfort

When I want comfort clothing I go to Cotton Ginny. Unfortunately, my local walk in store just closed. While Cotton Ginny now has online shopping I don’t find the site particularly shopper friendly, at least not this shopper. Or plus size friendly, choices are minimal. But I did find a few pieces I really liked tonight.

The Short Shrug is a serious necessity going into spring with all the maxi dresses, camis, and tanks that will be coming our way. This one is super affordable at $25. It is available in CG plus sizes small to xlarge.

At the opposite end is the Draped Salt and Pepper Cardigan is an essential piece that can be worn casual or dressed up for the office. This style of cardigan has been one of my favorites all season. CG has it in plus sizes small to xlarge and it is on sale for $33.75 (reg. $45).

Plus Size Grey Asymetrical Cardigan

And finally, CG has 100% organic cotton jersey knit Pull On Leggings in plus sizes small to xlarge. They are available in black and are on sale for $22.50 (reg. $30).

Kit Shopping at Kaliyana

Kit shopping is not a new concept but in my experience it has usually involved a lot of cheap jersey knit material that isn’t overly fashionable nor flattering. If you are not familiar with kit shopping it’s a concept of buying a kit of a select number of pieces that are designed to give the most options for less money. Like Kaliyana’s 6-pack kit which allows two to four fabric choices for six pieces that coordinate into twenty outfits! All you need to do is supply the shoes and the accessories.

The 6-pack kit includes a jacket, two tops, a tank, a skirt, and choice of pants. All pieces are made of papyrus. The kit is sold for considerable savings off the individual piece prices for $899 (that’s approximately $149 a piece). Their clothing is made in sizes up to 22.

Kaliyana concept is a good idea to keep in mind whenever you do any shopping. Six co-ordinating pieces is all it takes to freshen up your wardrobe. Imagine what you could do with 12!

Spring Dresses

I don’t know what it is like where you are but it seems a bit early for spring. But that didn’t stop me from looking through Torrid’s look books. And what did I find? These really cute dresses that’s what! That shrugs and mini jackets that would work too.

Plus Size Maternity

There used to be a time when plus size women got pregnant they just kept wearing their regular clothes plus size clothes until they just couldn’t wear them anymore. Then they would buy larger plus size clothes that fit their bellies but not the rest of them.

Luckily, today there are places to buy plus size maternity clothing albeit not always locally. Ample Mama is a small online shop out of B.C that offers an array of plus size maternity products to make plus size moms lives easier and fashionable.

I love this Twist Front Top which is available in black and sage in sizes 18 to 26 for $70. It’s figure flattering with the fooler cami and gathering.

Make sure you check out the Bella Band for covering up peek-a-boo bellies!

Smart Dresses

Igigi is one of my favorite spots for party dresses. I also love their career dresses — like this smart Jennifer Wrap Dress in black in their new arrivals. Igigi’s well made dresses come in size 12 to 30. This wrap dress is $118.

Fooler Shirts

A fooler shirt is a top that looks like one top layered over another but it fact it is one. One of the things I like about fooler tops, especially for plus size women, is that it reduces the bulk of wearing two tops by getting rid of excess material where the two fabrics join.

Addition-Elle must recognize this convenient comfort as they seem to have lots of fooler tops to choose from this season. This is just a few of my favorites (I especially like the ruffle one in the middle). Plus sizes available range from x to 4x while prices range from $38 to $65. That’s not taking into account their current New Year sales.

The Asymmetrical Cardigan

For this fall and winter one of the hottest pieces for plus size bodies is the versatile asymmetrical cardigan. It is so versatile because of the many ways it can be worn. It can be relaxed with a turtle neck (or mock neck), a contrasting wide belt, tights, and boots; or business like with a satin cami, business skirt, and heels; or casual with a stretch shirt, jeans, and your favorite flats.

If you haven’t picked up one yet, Penningtons has their Cardi Shawl on for $39.99. I love the purple (at right) but it is available in black and silver too. Currently they have limited sizes online from 1x to 3x. I imagine because it is so popular.

If you are looking for bigger sizes, check out SwakDesigns answer to the asymmetrical cardigan, the Cozy Plus Size Bellini. It has an extra long removable sash which is a great addition to play with if you don’t already have a wide belt. It is available in sizes 2x to 6x in red, black, teal, gray, and brown for $60. They offer free shipping worldwide on orders $40 or more.

Fitted Military Jacket

One of the hottest looks this fall has been the military trench. Working on the same theme is a mini Cadet Button Jacket from Plus Size Fix. It is very affordable at $33.99 (US). Wear it over a cami with jeans; with a ruffle front blouse and dress pant; or over a sleeveless dress. It’s made of polyester/spandex for comfort and fit.

Plus Size Fix is currently offering free shipping on orders $75 and over. They ship almost everywhere.

Yoga Jeans

Thanks to Marie Denee for letting me know about the Yoga Jeans from Second Clothing — specifically, their cute video about how orgasmic the fabric and wear are:

Second Yoga Jeans are made with 97% brushed cotton and 3% elastine to “hug curves in any position”. Their jeans are Canadian made in Montreal and are currently available at Addition-Elle in the boot-cut and skinny leg versions for $130. I’m not sure what is available in-store but online they have sizes 16 to 22.

Plus Size Tight (and Leggings)

One of the best places I’ve found for plus size tights is We Love Colors. The company is located in Florida but they ship world wide. I had the opportunity to test drive a few pairs this fall thanks to their PR people. We-Love-Colors-Opaque-Tights

We Love Colors has the usual black, brown, white and beige tights but they also have over 50 shocking colors to suit your every mood and fashion impulse. The colors maintain their vividness after several washes and while they stretched out a bit by the end of the day (they weren’t drooping) they returned to their shrunken shape after washing. They are soft to the touch (seriously, I keep stroking my legs when I wear them). Their tights come in sizes A/B to EE which fit 160 lbs to 375 lbs.

It amazes me what a hot item tights are this fall. I like it when they are worn in a monochromatic fashion — all black or red from head to toe for example.

If you haven’t liked the fit of what has been available to you I highly recommend trying We Love Color’s tights. But do use your imagination and step outside the traditional color scheme you are used to. Every woman should have at least one pair of wild tights!
