Unique Plus Size Swimwear

For truly unique plus size swimwear you must visit Monif C. But be warned, with that unique designer swimsuit comes a steep price. Monif C is best known for her amazing Marilyn convertible dress; a few years ago she introduced a few swimsuits and each consecutive year there have been more options to tease and delight us. Most sell out fast, sometimes before they are even available (via pre-orders). Here are a few (I had like ten which is most of the line and cut it down to four) of my current favorites:

The Bikini

Plus size swimsuit separates that include the option of a full brief and a bikini top are going to be even hotter than last summer as more women impose their right to bare arms, legs, and bellies. Monif has a few print and sold options to choose from. I love the simplicity of this black and white pattern. And doesn’t that top look like it was made to support a plus size woman’s breasts?

Active or Modest or Sensitive

Whether you are very active in the water, a little modest, or perhaps you burn easily on the chest and arms. The Malibu Surfer suit is glorious with its pseudo-peacock print and long black sleeves. I adore this one.

Peek-a-Boo

This peek-a-boo shoulder one piece comes in a few color options but the burnt orange is so bright and so festive. The deep V shows your sexy means business.

Ruffles

The Trinidad Ruffle swimsuit also comes in a few color options but I love the basic black. A simple swimsuit is made pretty by the addition of an all over ruffle, reminiscent of my favorite peasant tops, and a few hip dangles.

Bright Print Swimwear

Plus size bright swimsuits from Always for Me.

Always for Me has some of the prettiest swimsuits for spring and summer. At the moment I am loving their bright print swimwear. Here are four of my favorites beginning with the Longitude Spectacular Side Shirred Swimsuit (available in sizes 14 to 24 for $89) which makes me thing of flames, you know, hot!

Control Swimwear

Plus size control top tankini from Always for Me.

It is never too early to get ready for swimsuit season and Always For Me makes it pretty easy all year long. This season they are introducing their newest collection, Always for Me in Control Swimsuits. Their built-in control panels are designed to “smooth the tummy and minimize the hips” — beyond that, I find control top swimwear tends to stay in place better when you are active in the water. Some of the stylish detailing you can expect are piping, ruffles, empire waist, color blocking, and brights. Here are six of my favorite plus size swimsuits from their collection:

Plus Size Swimsuits with Pizzazz

Monif C released this years swimsuits a few weeks ago and of course they are totally glamorous. Perfect for pool side or cruise side. Here’s is Monif’s latest video discussing this year’s swimsuits as well as a peek of the Monaco on a plus body:

My absolute favorites are the the Monaco Ruched in yellow ($130), Catalina Draped in teal ($148), and the Capri Two-piece in zebra ($160 – and sold out). All swimsuits come in size 14 to 24 but there are many sizes sold out or soon to be sold out so don’t wait for hot weather if you love one.

Plus Size Swimsuit Cover-Ups

That’s right it’s January and I’m talking about swimsuit cover-ups. Why on earth would I do that? You guessed it, cruise season! I’ve never been on a cruise but I imagine it involves wearing a lot of sundresses, swimsuits, and cover ups. Unless of course you are taking an Alaskan cruise.

Sweaters on Sale at A/E

Addition Elle has their sweaters on sale for 50% off both online and in store while quantities last. One of my favorites is the teal mock neck sweater with short raglan sleeve for $39.99 (less 50%).

It is a great layering piece under jackets. Plus size women tend fluctuate in body temperature and the mock neck doesn’t go up high like a turtle neck and the short leaves reduce bulkiness under jackets as well as giving some added air circulation. The button detailing make it lovely enough to be warn alone.

This top is currently available in the teal shown here and black (other colors may be available in store). Sizes are limited.

Retro Plus Size Swimwear

This plus size retro-inspired swimsuit is from Always for Me.

Itsy teenie weenie bikinis are out according to Forbes. That works just fine for the majority of the swimsuit population (well the female contingent anyway).

Hot looks for swimwear this summer include polka dots, halter straps and ruched fabric. One of my favorite plus size swimsuit providers is Always for Me and they have retro plus size swimwear that will knock your sock off and have your toes pining for a dip in the pool.

Ocho Rios Twist One Piece Bandeau in sizes 16 to 26 for $79. It gives the polka dot bikini the updated look almost every one can wear. If you like your dots a little smaller they have others to choose from.
