Clothing Trends (to Avoid)

Marcy Guevara, roving fashion reporter for Kiyonna’s Setting the Curve gave the dish on the top trends (tongue in cheek) that women should (not) incorporate into their wardrobe. The hints start right from the title.

Happy April fools!

15% off at Ardène Everyday

Hair Accessory

I was at Ardène’s today. It was one of those drive by stops — I was walking by going some where else and couldn’t resist the loud music and bright atmosphere. Not to forget all those 5 for $10 signs! Hair Accessory

I picked up five headbands. One for every day of the week. All completely different in style, texture and material. My bangs are getting to that unruly stage and until I decide what I want to do with them these will help give me a new look every day. Ok, the little effort part was enticing too.

While I was there I learned if you sign up for their VIP card you can get 15% off all purchases. That is HUGE savings. And unlike many other VIP programs, Ardene’s is free. I just finished signing up online where you can create a wish list.

Turquoise Cuff Bracelet

Bella Inspired Cuff Bracelet

Ok, I haven’t seen New Moon yet but it is zipped (Zip.ca) for March. I have however seen Twilight twice (and read all the books). As you know there have been t-shirts galore with team Edward (yeah! team Edward) or team Jacob. But I also keep seeing jewelry pieces inspired from these movies, Bella’s in particular.

Bella Inspired Cuff Bracelet

This Turquoise Cuff Bracelet is at the top of favorites. It’s currently on sale at Emitations for $19.99. While I’m definitely on the team Edward side, this cuff bracelet looks more like something Jacob could have given Bella.

Luv the design and the turquoise silver combination. It would look awesome with a boyfriend blazer, sleeves rolled, of course, to show it off.

Boyfriend-Blazer-from-Forever-21

Plus size girls can take advantage of the latest hot fashion trend — the boyfriend blazer — whether they have a boyfriend or not. Forever21′s plus size line Faith21 has an affordable black one for $40 in xl and 1x.

The boyfriend blazer is a necessary versatile piece for this season. Wear it with tee/tank and motorcycle boots; or with a sleeveless cocktail dress and dressy booties; or with a flowing skirt, cami, and flats.

Yoga Starter Kit

yoga-starter-kit

If you are considering taking up yoga or have been practicing it for a while and wish to solidify your commitment you need to check out Yoga Accessories. They have a starter yoga that includes a 1/4” Extra Thick Deluxe Yoga Mat, a 6′ Pinch Buckle Cotton Yoga Strap, a Large Nylon Zippered Yoga Mat Bag, two 3” Foam Yoga Blocks, and a Traditional Mexican Yoga Blanket. It is currently $59.99 (reg. $89.99). There is a drop down menu for each item allowing for choice of color. Personally, I love the red shown, but my mat is POWER purple.

If you already have a mat but can’t afford a whole kit I highly recommend getting a strap. Straps are an ingenious tool for plus size yoga practitioners. They allow for deeper poses and aid when some parts are not as reachable as others. Love my strap.

Some plus size women don’t like the rectangular yoga mats (when it comes to floor work they spill over). Yoga Accessories has the coolest looking round mat. It’s a bit pricey for the occasional practitioner but if your practice is more than a couple times a week it may be right up your alley.

I’ve also included a link below for a few reviews so be sure to check them out too.

Avon Accessory Finds

Butler-Bag

I don’t sell Avon but I occasionally partake in a catalog or two (recently the last three). My last pick was the Beyond Color Radiant Lifting Eyeshadow which I ordered two more of because I liked it so much. Jen Grover Designed Handbag

In campaign ten I found this adorable bag — Butler Basics Essential Bag. I thought it was a sweet looking bag when I first glanced at it but then I saw the organizing compartments I then thought it was awesome. But I’m wondering if the compartments will really stay all squared off like that (anyone try one yet??). Regardless, it’s a good intro price of $29.99 (reg $39.99).

Brightly Colored Fashion WatchesThe other item that caught my eye were these Bright Sporty watches with crystal accent and rubber-look straps. They remind of the Toy Watch I blogged about last year that the first lady was sporting. This is obviously a much cheaper version and a more interesting face. In this campaign it is an affordable $19.99 (reg $29.99).

Last Minute Gifts

ShoppingBag

There are 10 more shopping days left until Christmas. Don’t you just hate it when people give you that reminder? Me too. But I was so shocked that it crept up on me so quickly I had to share. ShoppingBag

I have some shopping done but still more to go and I’m sure I’m not alone. Here’s a quick list of last minute gifts.

  1. Gloves – Sears always has a fashionable assortment of gloves on hand. Stay away from anything to frilly or woolly. A pair of black leather gloves go along way and will be appreciated. Fuzzy wool ones probably not so much.
  2. Scarf – A snood would be even better. They are functional, fashionable and don’t seem to give us as hard a time as the traditional rectangular scarf does. If you know how to knit you could easily whip one or two or three up over the next few days. Don’t skip on the thread either. If you can’t go pristine then at least go a step up from bottom of the line. They wash and wear better.
  3. Leg Warmers – Ardene’s has a great selection of leg warmers at super saver pricing. How about a pair for each day of the week. Go classic or funky. Or Both!
  4. Beaded bracelet – Micheal’s has some of the most beautiful beads and they are a one stop shop for jewelry making. Take 30 minutes and make them something pretty.
  5. Gift certificates – Some die-hard shoppers look down their nose are gift certificates but they are one of the best gifts you can give someone. They are a license to splurge. If the person you are shopping for is tech savvy you might even consider a e-card.

Happy shopping!
