Double Tees at Laura Plus Canada

Starting today Laura Plus Canada has, buy one get second for half price on t-shirts and capris. This can not be combined — you can’t buy a t-shirt and get half off the capris. You need to buy one t-shirt and get a second t-shirt to get the half off. Or vice versa for the capris. plus size t-shirts

I don’t have an expiry date but it is listed as “limited time” on website. Sorry, you can’t shop online. To take advantage of this promotion you’ll have to visit a walk-in store.

The Navy Suit

I normally say that every woman should have at least one complete suit set. And I admit I usually say black. Mostly because it goes with everything; it is easily interchangeable with other black pieces in our wardrobe; and when you look at a person, black is like a canvas — it doesn’t stand out so it becomes virtually unrecognizable from one day to the next. Which can be a good thing if you can only afford one suit.

As of today I’ve changed my thinking. I think everyone should have at least one black suit and Igigi’s new three navy suit. Yes, it’s a pretty hefty price to get all three pieces but with the versatility, mixing with your current wardrobe is boundless. I love that the suit jacket is pretty and unique looking but the pleats in the back of the skirt are fabulous. If I could only buy two of the three pieces it would definitely be the jacket and the skirt. But the jacket looks so sharp with the pants too. All three pieces come in sizes 12 to 3o. The jacket is $138, the pant is $76, and the skirt is $62.

Black and White Print

One of the trends this season is black and white. It can come in the form of mingled separates or patterns like stripes, zebra, leopard, gingham, houndstooth or plaid. Here are some of my favorite patterned pieces from Addition-Elle that rock this trend with no effort at all:

Plus Size Clothing from Addition-Elle

Addition-Elle also has many separates in black or white that you can mix and match with as well. Chances are your closet is already teaming with black and white pieces so add some print this spring.

Five Trends to Watch for This Spring

Not everyone likes to watch fashion trends. I have to admit while I keep an eye out for them I don’t allow them to restrict me in my fashion choices. I think plus size women have been restricted enough. What I do like to do with them is use them as a forecast of things that I can expect to find in the shops and then use my personal taste to decide if it’s something I want to shape into my own sense of style. There are five trends that I am totally warming up to this season. Silk Dupion Frill Coat from Anna Scholz

Electric Blue

This is probably one of my absolute favorite color trends this year. And no one has taken better advantage of it than Anna Scholz. Look for this color locally in your own shops as well and if you like it try to add at least one piece in this color. It is a showcase color so don’t go crazy with it. I know it will be hard because it is such an awesome color.

Paisley

I don’t know what it is about paisley but it seems like it never dies. I’m sure it must be one of the most rebirthed patterns (other than stripes and dots). And it is back again. I find it to be an incredibly pleasing pattern for the plus size frame especially if it is in the form of a skirt and mixed in with one or two other patterns.

Lace Tops and Dresses

My next favorite trend is lace tops/blouses and dresses. I always find straight blouses to be boring but lace adds texture and romance. And if they are a completely different styles we can get away with more than one of them in our wardrobe. This lace top is from Torrid and the dress is from SwakDesigns.

Asymmetrical Draping

The asymmetrical cardigans were a hot item last season and they are continuing to pick up momentum this season but it is no longer limited to just cardigans. You can find it in tops, scarves, skirts, and dresses. Asymmetry is a great distraction!

Applique Sweater from Faith21Appliqué

Overall, clothing with stuff stuck on it is not my favorite fashion trend unless of course it is monochrome. For some reason the multicolored appliqués remind me of the poor kids who’s crafty mothers sent them to school with decorated sweatshirts (apologies to crafty mothers). Fortunately this is not the case for this fashion trend.

Which ones do you like?

The leggings are of course from We Love Colors and fit up to 375lbs. The ruffle skirt, cami, and shoes are from Torrid and the asymmetrical cardigan is from Kiyonna.

Plus Size Denim Jeans

If you are still looking for plus size jean options but can’t seem to find any with style locally, then check Svoboda. They are one of the leaders in plus size fashion when it comes to jeans. They recently released a treasure trove of choices in sizes 10 to 24. Don’t be alarmed by the lack of updates with the rest of the site, they are still in business.

My absolute favorites are:

The Malibu Blue Five Pocket Knit Denim Leggings, $128. The fat girl’s version of the skinny jean that is perfect worn with one of the most popular trends this year –high boots.

Plus Size Denim Jeans from Svoboda

The Black Licorice Five Pocket Jean, $128. A skinny leg jean but not to the extreme and in black. These are suitable for boots but don’t look wonky if worn with heels.

Svoboda's Plus Size Denim

The Blue Widow Spider Five Pocket Jean, $138. I admit it, the name caught my attention first but this is a great every day jean.

Plus Size Denim from Svoboda

The last two pair of jeans are made with 28% Elastarell instead of Spandex. Elastarell is supposed to hold its shape longer and offer a better fit.

Kit Shopping at Kaliyana

Kit shopping is not a new concept but in my experience it has usually involved a lot of cheap jersey knit material that isn’t overly fashionable nor flattering. If you are not familiar with kit shopping it’s a concept of buying a kit of a select number of pieces that are designed to give the most options for less money. Like Kaliyana’s 6-pack kit which allows two to four fabric choices for six pieces that coordinate into twenty outfits! All you need to do is supply the shoes and the accessories.

The 6-pack kit includes a jacket, two tops, a tank, a skirt, and choice of pants. All pieces are made of papyrus. The kit is sold for considerable savings off the individual piece prices for $899 (that’s approximately $149 a piece). Their clothing is made in sizes up to 22.

Kaliyana concept is a good idea to keep in mind whenever you do any shopping. Six co-ordinating pieces is all it takes to freshen up your wardrobe. Imagine what you could do with 12!

Yoga Jeans

Thanks to Marie Denee for letting me know about the Yoga Jeans from Second Clothing — specifically, their cute video about how orgasmic the fabric and wear are:

Second Yoga Jeans are made with 97% brushed cotton and 3% elastine to “hug curves in any position”. Their jeans are Canadian made in Montreal and are currently available at Addition-Elle in the boot-cut and skinny leg versions for $130. I’m not sure what is available in-store but online they have sizes 16 to 22.

Plus Size Tight (and Leggings)

One of the best places I’ve found for plus size tights is We Love Colors. The company is located in Florida but they ship world wide. I had the opportunity to test drive a few pairs this fall thanks to their PR people. We-Love-Colors-Opaque-Tights

We Love Colors has the usual black, brown, white and beige tights but they also have over 50 shocking colors to suit your every mood and fashion impulse. The colors maintain their vividness after several washes and while they stretched out a bit by the end of the day (they weren’t drooping) they returned to their shrunken shape after washing. They are soft to the touch (seriously, I keep stroking my legs when I wear them). Their tights come in sizes A/B to EE which fit 160 lbs to 375 lbs.

It amazes me what a hot item tights are this fall. I like it when they are worn in a monochromatic fashion — all black or red from head to toe for example.

If you haven’t liked the fit of what has been available to you I highly recommend trying We Love Color’s tights. But do use your imagination and step outside the traditional color scheme you are used to. Every woman should have at least one pair of wild tights!

Plus Size Velour

Yes, velour track suits come in plus sizes. Especially at SWAK Designs where I found this two velour hoodie and pants. It is sold separately so if you happen to be bigger on bottom or top you can order accordingly. The top and bottom,  which comes in sizes 1x to 3x, is $27. 50 each. I love the indigo color shown here but it available in midnight, mahogany, and royal plum. Velour-Plus-Size-Track-Suit

SWAK designs is located in the United States but they ship internationally. They actually are one of the few companies that offer excellent shipping prices to Canadians — free with orders over $40. I could easily spend $40 there so free shipping is a definite bonus.
